GIE - Market Leader in FMCG Distribution Market in Qatar 


Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMGC) are those products which have a short life span ranging from a day to a year and generally include a wide range of frequently purchased consumer products both food and non food category. Middle East countries have always been a favourite hunting ground for  many Multi National Companies (MNCs) and local companies to sell their FMCGs. Naturally many MNCs and local players have emerged on the scene paving the way for changes in market trends and stiff competition among companies to vie for the attention of consumers. In such a market it is only the best and the most competitively priced products that can provide the best of service not only to withstand the onslaught of big companies and survive but also to give them a run for their money.  Due to the short life span distribution of these products plays a pivotal role for companies in gaining  a strong foothold in the market. 

Gulf International Enterprises (GIE) which was  established in the mid 1990s is a major FMGC distributor in Qatar in the last two decades.  The company represents as a distributor for a variety of leading brands in Doha Qatar and provides wide coverage and extensive distribution across various market segments. The company started by Alfred Sequeira in the mid 90s initially represented only a few select brands of FMCG it has emerged as a major distributor to some of the leading brands in the FMCG sector in Qatar.  Alfred who hails from Paladka, Moodbidri,  had come to Qatar in 1976 and was able to get a feel of the market in FMCG sector during his stay there. Having worked for nearly 2 decades he was ready to establish his own venture and thus Gulf International Enterprises (GIE)  was born.

With his penchant for hard work and knack to study the FMCG market Alfred who initially started to distribute only a few brands soon expanded his business to include a wide ranging brands and products.

Alfred who is the brain behind the success of GIC says my company always aimed to be a notch distributor for non-durable FMGCs  in Qatar which includes both food and non-food products.   With this intent GIE has been offering top class distribution services something that has not been experienced in the state of Qatar before.  This helped the company to make a successful foray and gain a foothold by being far ahead of its competitors.  Providing a conducive work atmosphere for the employees to enable them give their best and plough back good results from such a working atmosphere worked wonders for the company. 

Alfred introduced a slew of measures to strengthen his sway over the market in Qatar including   utilization of cost effective sales management, inventory control, warehousing, swift delivery, product promotion and merchandising.  These measures gave GIE the edge to face the onslaught of its rivals and competitors in the region.  The results were soon evident as the company slowly but firmly established itself in the market and emerging as a leading FMCG distribution sector.  As a result GIE has been able to stand head and shoulders above its contemporary competitors in the region. GIE has been primarily responsible for heating up the competitive environment significantly in Dohas FMCG market. Credit goes to the dedication and diligence shown by the ever enthusiastic staff of GIE and the vision and guidance provided by Alfred Sequeira, who led his staff from the front.  

Alfred Sequeira has not confined his energies and acumen merely to expand his business.  Though he is heading an organization which has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few years he still remains humble and down to earth. In fact success has made him more humble and more humane both in his personal and social life.  It is this quality of his which endears him to all those who come in contact with him. 

Alfred greatly believes in giving back to the society and has been a generous donor to various causes of public benefit.  He has been one of the major sponsors of many events organized by Doha-based organizations of NRIs working there. It would not be an exaggeration to say that many associations of the coastal regions of Udupi-Mangalore are able to organize socio-cultural programmes due to his munificence and large-heartedness.   He is a philanthropist by choice and does not dither when it comes to his generosity for causes of public benefit and public good.  
Alfred Sequeira has been able to infuse in his staff the same dedication, commitment and hard work in his staff as he realizes these are the major factors which help a company to find acceptance among consumers.  That is like half the battle won.

About Alfred Sequeira :

Alfred Sequeira  who hails from Paladka Moodbidri was one among the six children of his parents and had had come to Doha soon after completing his education.  He is married to Rita Sequeira who is equally shouldering the responsibility of running the business.  The couple has two children, a son and a daughter. 

Daughter Dr. Reema Sequeira is married to Gordon Fernandes and have one son, works in private clinic as a Pedodontist in Doha.  Son Adrian Ricky Sequeira has done his Masters in Electronics from Florida Tech, USA, MS Electronics from  Georgia Tech, Atlanta and MBA from York University, Canada and is working for PIMCO in Canada.
