The programme began with the blessing of the premises by Fr Austin Peter Peres, parish priest, Corpus Christi Church here. After the blessing, foundation stone for ‘Evershine Residency’ was laid by local MLA, Abhayachandra Jain. M Ratnakar Devadiga, president of town municipal council (TMC) here, laid the foundation stone for ‘Sunrise Avenue’. The ceremony was presided over by Krishnaraj Hegde, former president of Agriculture Produce Market Committee, Mangalore. After the introduction, MLA, Abhayachandra Jain, spoke first. In his speech, he congratulated Mendes brothers for their projects, and said that Mendes brothers have contributed a lot for the development of Moodbidri. He recollected that the first multi-storied residential building in Moodbidri was constructed by Mendes brothers. “Their earlier ventures include both commercial and residential buildings. Moodbidri is leading in the field of education because of a number of educational institutions, which have come up here. With apartments like Evershine Residency and Sunrise Avenue, it will be convenient for the people to enjoy modern facilities and amenities here,” he noted. Abhayachandra also promised to strive hard to get support from the government for the further development of the town.

Chief guest of the ceremony, Bahubali Prasad, in his address, noted that Moodbidri has been on fast track of development with a sizeable population of students, and hence felt that there is tremendous demand for residential apartments in the town. “This place had earlier been popularly known as ‘Jain Kashi’, then it came to be known as an educational hub, and it has now blossomed into a full-fledged residential area, where people would love to live because of the fact that all modern facilities are available within reach. He said Moodbidri is witnessing a growing demand for residential apartments, and taking into account the location of sites where Evershine and Sunrise will come up, the temptation to own a flat there is difficult to resist.

Krishnaraj Hegde was the last to speak. He observed that construction has been a family business of Mendes Group, and that the foundation for this business was laid by the late Basil Mendes, who took the initiative for undertaking development and charitable work in Puchemogro by building a colony in Shantinagar for the needy and the poor. This good work has also been continued by his sons. Mendes Group is now at the forefront, not only in business and real estate, but also in the field of education, he added. In conclusion, he observed that the location of Evershine and Sunrise apartments is ideal for residential projects. Considering Mendes Group as pioneers in building of residential apartments, he extended good wishes to them for the new projects, and hoped that many more such projects will be undertaken in future for the development of the town.

Finally, while proposing vote of thanks, Sunil Mendes thanked all the distinguished guests present, and also especially thanked the customers, who have already booked apartments in Evershine Residency and Sunrise Avenue.

Felix D’Souza , Mumbai, P K Thomas, Shanthi Prasad Hegde, Corporation Bank manager, Ravi Prasad Upadhyaya, and N S Rego were present at the ceremony
