Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martis hails from Holy Cross Parish, Pamboor, Bantakal, earlier the part of Shirva Church, diocese of Udupi. Born in the year 1944. He studied primary education at St John's Church, Shankerpura. Later on,hejoined the St. Mary’s School at Shirva. In the year 1960,after completinghis High School Studies, he joined St. Joseph's Seminary Jeppu, Mangalore.
After completing studies in philosophy,he was sent to Rome for further studies in priesthood by the Bishop.In Rome, Brother Lawrence was placed in CollegioUrbano, an Ecclesiastical College run by the Propaganda Fide, Vatican, Rome.
In the year 1970, Deacon Lawrence was ordained priest by His Holiness St. Pope Paul Vl.
After his ordination he served at various parishes, first in the diocese of Mangalore and later in the diocese of Udupi.
In the year 2018 he retired from the active ministry. Currently, Fr. Lawrence has been residing at the retired priest house at Jeppu, Mangalore.
Fr. Lawrence is a simple priest dedicated in his priestly ministry. He has always preferred an insignificant place in his life. Fr. Lawrence made this as his motto of life: Christ must increase, and I must decrease. Long life to Fr. Lawrence, as he is celebrating his Golden Jubilee of his priesthood on Sunday 17. 5. 2020.
