Summer Holidays...

by Piyali Attavar

This issue we introduce you to 8-year old Piyali Attavar. Piyali lives in Dubai and is studying in grade three at Kindergarten Starters. Mum Lalitha and Dad Yathish hail from Attavar.

Piyali's article is timely as Dubai is now in the midst of its summer holidays. Piyali will enjoy the activities at the summer club and then embark on a trip to Mangalore where she will spend time with her grandparents. She also recounts her travel last year when she went as an unaccompanied minor in the flight to Mangalore. That's our bold Piyali!

Well done!

Summer Holidays

by Piyali Attavar

Hi, my name is Piyali Attavar, I am eight years old.  I was born in Dubai and I am in grade three in the Kindergarten Starters. We have just begun our summer holidays and I have joined the summer club in our school. I hope that I will enjoy it by making new friends. My teacher has given me a circular saying that they will take us for swimming and playing in the water. Swimming is my favorite sport and I am looking forward to this. I also like coloring and this is also an activity in the summer camp. Rest of my vacation, we have planned to visit my grandparents in Attavar, Mangalore.

I love my native place very much is because there are lot of places to visit and a number of temples, which I visit with my grandparents. First thing I visit is the Ideal Ice-cream Parlour to taste the Gadbad  ice-cream which is not available in Dubai .

I like the rainy season the most because my grandfather allows me to play in the rain-water when it rains. My grandmother comes running behind me with a towel to wipe my wet head. My cousins Adu anna and Poorvi  akka also join me and we make paper boats and let them float in the flowing water.

Last year, during my vacation I traveled on my own by Air India Express without my parents. That was a new experience for me. My parents were with me till I was taken inside the airport by an aunty who helped me till the flight. I was not afraid because my mummy had already told me to be bold. I was a little afraid only when the flight took off and when it landed. I made new friends in the flight and enjoyed my trip. I was very happy to see my grandparents at the Mangalore airport.
