English Poems
by Athmika Ramachandra

 Jun 6, 2007

Athmika R, daughter of P.Ramachandra a Dubai based Engineer and Shaila, born on 24th August 1991 at Mangalore, had her pre-nursery schooling at Tiruvottiyur and Tuticorin at Tamil Nadu.

She intends to pursue her pre degree in Arts with Psychology & English.

Her ability to write poetry was noticed by her class teacher Ms. Padmini when she was studying in 3rd Standard at PSBBSS School Chennai and was encouraged by her mother to continue. She has written over 200 poems so far and her first anthology titled Innocence & Insight comprising of 89 poems was published by P.Goplalakrishna Memorial Trust ® Mangalore in the year 2005, the feat which is difficult to imagine at such a young age.  She is hardly 16 years of age.

Athmika is a born poetess.  The poetry flows from within her and turns into reality when produced on paper.

Athmika is the grand daughter of Late P.Gopalakrshna ( Pa. Go) renowned veteran journalist & Columnist of Mangalore.

Here are a few Collection of Athmika’s poems reproduced for our readers pleasure

Take off

How wonderful is nature
Distinct in every creature
Animals and plants,  big or small
Protect nature together with all

All the fun, under the sun
It’s time for a slow run
Anytime of the day
Relax in nature, may be December or May

Lets all join together, once for a cause
Lets take time to pause
From our busy life
To give time to plants and wildlife

Ticking

The clock is ticking
Tension is rising
What to do ?
The exams are coming

Every second counts
Every number and alphabet counts
The water keeps ticking
The tension keeps rising

Once  you finish the paper
All the burden is off your head
Take the time to burn the road
And wait for the rain to cool the rage

Life Song

Let life fly
Learn to laugh and cry
There’s something more to learn
Not just to earn and burn

Be a bird in the sky or life
Be quick and sharp like a kitchen knife
Keep your emotions strong like a diamond
In distress, be equal to milk of almond

Man’s life is difficult and joyful
Each vista making things wonderful
Life may be short or long
For its a life song

Forgive me, Lord

Lord, will you ever
Forgive me, anytime
I have broken
Two hearts today
There I know will
Be no repentance for this

They are my friends
Who have cheered me
When I was gloomy
There are the times,those times
I can live life happily
Why can’t they too ?

You know, there’s something
I love to see all
Of the people around me happy
But when one gets joyful
I am the reason to
Break their heart

Why is it so ?
That I have to
Carry this dangerous
Weapon which pulls
Both joy and sorrow
From people I meet

Open Up

Wake up,
There is so much
Done unrest, left away
In the journey
On the way
Life has so much for us

Each milestone we cross
Each obstacle we jump over
Each torrent river we cross
Each mountain we climb over
There is something under the mass
Don’t just dig and hover

Life is for you and me
Life is for us to see
Let it be
Like a flying bee
Open the door with happiness key
You’ll see yourself and me

Atmika,I liked your poems a lot. Its simple, meaningful, and musical to read. I wish Kannada film director Yograj Bhat reads your poem on Life. He has made a song on Life in film Panchrangi. Beautiful. You should make use of movies and TV as medium for your poems to reach people. Iam sure you will become as successfull as Javed Akhthar or like Gulzar sahib.
