The Frog Race
By Annie Dimple Castelino

October 24, 2013

The Frog Race

An army of frogs met in the pond

It was their home to which they had an eternal bond

To discuss about the world frog race

Where the world’s best anuran would face

The contest would hold swimming and jumping

Featured also by climbing and running

For all this they needed strong legs

“Please strengthen your locomotion” the leader begs

The frogs are all excited, they start their training

They jump, swim, climb, run – without complaining

Their aim was to excel in the competition

And gain a universal recognition

In their excitement they croaked and hopped

Not having the faintest clue that they could be attacked

They believed that they had the right to live

The nature was not the property of just a few

But the cruel humans would they understand this

Seeing the masses of frogs they were in bliss

For their mouth watered thinking of frog delicacy

Fried frog legs for dinner would be an ecstasy

The  greedy humans never gave a second thought

In a jiffy all the frogs were caught

None heeded their cries or pleas

And ignored their rights to live in peace

Thus ended the story of the frog race

Which is an account of man’s disgrace

Life is precious, let it live

World is not the right of just a few.

Nice poem. Human should live with the nature without disturbing the god created atmosphere. For instance take this case - there existed a large pond where frogs and fish thrived. Some greedy builders / developers got in touch with some ministers and babus and converted the status of the pond area and closed down the pond and built high rise towers. Ministers and babus got their share in the loot and developers prospered by collecting huge amount of black money. No body remembered the fate of the frogs and fish which were in the pond.

Enjoyed the peom.very meaningful and good.Of course the frog in nature is more important than in vessel.we will understand its importance when it is not there.every animal has its part in nature but in Limit.but Natur knows to Limit it by its own method.we should not destroy it.

Nice to hear from you Annie, after a long time. Your radience both iin poetry and personality is astonishing. Here is a copied one to add to your feelings:

The frogs are disappearing,
How I am fearing.
The frogs are gone,
There's no more croak or song.
Because of global warming,
The flies are swarming,
We need to change the thermometer,
It goes up and down like a barometer.
Frogs live in ponds they make lots of noise,
They bring me loads and loads of joys.
We love the frogs and now you should too,

Though the government has banned export of frog legs, they are still available in certain restaurants in Goa clandestinely in the name of 'Jumping Chicken'!!

Keep writing so passionately.

Frogs, legs, begs, eggs, pegs, wine, dine, meal, deal, kill, eat, treat, heat, beat, cheat, tweet, attract, produce, distract, love and hate are the enjoyable/bitter facts and style of our life.
Human being is the superior creation of almighty God and he (the human) has the authority over all other living beings/things (animals, birds, fish, snakes, insects, plants, trees, fruits and vegetables).

After all the whole nature and environment is for the comfort of humans for a peaceful life.
But we live like cruel animals and treat our co-existing humans worst than animals and vegetation. In fact some pets are more fortunate today, than enormous humans, who have been mercilessly victimized and brutally and inhumanly murdered, which is a real misery and disaster.

The so called cruelty not restricted to humans alone. We all have heard of the Kannada saying 'Bekkige aata ilige pranasankata'. Good effort by the poet at rhyming though.

Very good poem. this poem reminds me of "Enterprise" by Nissim Ezekiel. more than the cruelty of the human beings it is worthy to note the aimlessness of the frogs. the poet seems to give more attention to the rhyming. Too much of attention to the rhyming might fix the poet with little choice of apt and effective words. all the beat. keep penning.
