Renowned Educationist, National Awards Winner, Grace Pinto, Mumbai

The strong determination and exuberant fervor of a committed woman to accomplish an exalted goal in life is what makes one admire Grace Pinto, the Director of the St. Xavier’s Group of Schools and Ryan International Schools.

Completely captivated by the mission of her husband Dr. A. F. Pinto, who envisioned an India where every boy and girl would go to school and started founding schools all over India, she too joined this gigantic enterprise. Today, as the Director of a Countrywide network of 75 vibrant schools spread over 14 States of India, she is the focal point of this school network managing the far flung school projects, responsible for providing overall strategic direction for the organization and ensuring effective imparting of education to the 1,50,000 students.


To widen the scope of students for study throughout India and in the global arena St. Xavier’s and Ryan’s have affiliations with I.C.S.E. & C.B.S.E. and with U. K. Universities. The students of St. Xavier’s and Ryan International schools represent a cross section of the  Indian Society.

The group of Schools is also a Member of the UNESCO Club & has been listed as ASP Network Schools. The have also participated in its events like slogan writing and Children’s Parliament on World Peace.

Recognizing the demand of the times, Pinto ensures that the gap between the traditional and modern is bridged. Thus, the 1.5 Lac students at the St. Xavier’s and Ryan International Schools benefit from the new teaching methods.


“SAMSON A. DANIEL AWARD 2003” presented by Hon. President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam for the highest contribution to “HelpAge India” on 01-10-2003.

One of the combined efforts of Dr. A. F. Pinto and Pinto is the dream project of ‘Education Through Lens’ which has worked its way into the LIMCA BOOK OF RECORDS. This Project train students to script, direct, shoot and produce films. The children are also taught to operate studio equipment and air their own programme. Under her initiative, the students of the Ryan International School created a children’s film ‘CHIKKI’ in a record time of 26 days. This film was screened at the TOKYO FILM FESTIVAL in the year 2000.

Having excelled nationally, the time was ripe to cross international boundaries. The schools, spearheaded by  Grace Pinto, were one of the first in India to adopt the concept of Quality Control Education. The students participate din QUALITY CIRLCE CONVENTIONS abroad, winning the Juran Award in Mauritius, the Best Sessions Award in Singapore and 6 Awards and 47 Medals in the 5th ICSQCC Convention held in Kentucky, USA. The students have also attended the Presidential Classroom Future World Leaders Summit in Washington D. C. in an effort to promote the concept of sharing ideas, students and teachers visited Russia, Bali, Bangkok and Paris as a part of the Cultural and Educational Exchange Programme

On 26th June, 2003 her visualization witnessed the evolution of the youngest breed of technicians, anchors, camera persons and producers with the grand launch of RYAN T.V. at Ryan International School, Malad. India’s first school to run an In-house Television Broadcasting Station with digital equipment, as certified by the Limca Book of Records. All these events were greatly applauded and appreciated by the media and the public.
An ardent supporter of women’s empowerment, Pinto is associated with many successful projects targeted towards the upliftment of the poor and needy.

She also takes a keen interest in promoting and catering to the welfare of senior citizens. The Help Age India honored Pinto for her contribution to this cause. The Honorable Primer Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee felicitated her.

Honorable President of India A.P.J. Abdul Kalam presented the Samson A. Daniel Award for the highest contribution made by Pinto to Help age India, in New Delhi on 1st October, 2003. The recognition that she has received down the years reflects the values, which Pinto follows and the same has been passed down to the students of her schools.

ANUBHAV SCHOOL in Gurgaon founded in 2000 owns a unique place in the history of Haryana and has risen as a vibrant informal school today adored by children from the economically disadvantaged section of society. This humanitarian work of giving access to education to the poor children has won respect. She has made fighting illiteracy and carrying good quality education to the door steps of the slum children her mission in life. 

On considering her efforts in imparting education in all the corners of the Country, Pinto was bestowed with the RAJIV GANDHI AWARD – 2003 on 19th August, 2003 for being the Renowned Educationist. Her achievement also boasts of the Best Women Educationist Award that was presented by the Mayor of Mumbai Shri Mahadeo Deole on 8th March, 2004 on the auspicious occasion of International Women’s Day. Her interest in the field of Social Service helped to crown herself with the coveted Vikas Ratna Shiromani Award and the prestigious National Achievement Award for the year 2003 – 2004.

As the Director of Ryan International Sports Club, Grace Pinto has been awarded the Limca Book of Records Certificate for organizing the largest State & Junior State Level Athletic Meet at Mumbai, wherein over 29,100 competitors from 245 schools, colleges and clubs participated in 359 track & field events.

Pinto is an environmentalist who believes in spreading eco-awareness and undertakes Cleanliness and tree plantation drives. This message is imparted to all the students of her schools, though active participation in Environment Campaigns, Drives and Rallies across the cities.

A compassionate woman at heart, Grace Pinto clearly enjoys helping the poor. She regularly organizes a supply of relief materials to the children of orphanages and leprosy victims by appealing to the students of the schools under her management to donate relief materials like clothing, food, toys and stationery.

The dreams of Grace Pinto have no limits and her visions know no boundaries. Along with her husband Dr. A. F. Pinto, she plans to extend her educational reach to International frontiers. She aspires to start centers of learning in all the continents of the world. Their new projects include not only schools but also vocational institutions that impart learning and training to students all over the globe.

For over 25 years, St. Xavier’s and Ryan International Schools have delivered quality education from Pre-Primary to Secondary levels through their schools in different States of India. The Schools’ achievements and the high percentage of success in Board examinations every year has clearly established the position that these two school networks are among the leading educators in the Country.

  •  Pinto was bestowed with the Rajiv Gandhi Award 2003 organized by the Indian Youth Congress Chief Shri Randeep Surjewala on 19th August, 2003 for being the Renowned Educationists.
  • Samson A. Daniel Award 2003 being presented by Honourable President of India Dr. A.P.J. Adbul Kalam, for the highest contribution made by her to Help Age India in New Delhi on 1st October, 2003.
  • Her achievement also boasts of the Best Women Educationist Award that was presented by the Mayor of Mumbai Shri Mahadeo Deole on 8th march, 2004 on the auspicious occasion of International Women’s Day.
  • The children, teachers and staff are delighted that their affectionate benefactress has received the VIKAS SHIROMANI AWARD from the Society for Friendship and National Unity.
  • Former Election Commissioner G.V.G. Krishnamurthy awarded the National Achievement Award for the year 2003 – 2004 organized by the All India Business and Community Foundation on 28th May, 2004 for her contribution to the speread of quality education and literacy throughout the Country.
  • Madam Grace Pinto has received a ‘Recognition Award’ from the Ex-Prime Minsiter of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee for her major contribution to HelpAge India.
  • Pinto was also bestowed with the “Indian with a Difference” award presented to her by Vision of India on 8th June, 2004 at Bangalore.

Grace Pinto believes that education is the salvation for the poor and says she is aiming at achieving both literacy and excellence. She wants to make the poor and underprivileged people realize that to educate them is to make them independent, empower them. She is a gleaming model for women entrepreneurs and others who are striving to reach the top, breaking all kinds of barriers.
